It is more fun to let others get a taste of something that old. Its just good, kick your taste buds in the butt good, but its good. It's easy to rub out and smokes coolly. Smells like fine, sweet Latakia. This stuff produces huge, thick clouds of smoke which never dissipate. I seem to remember the fresher stuff to have a bite to it that is now gone, or maybe my technique has just changed in the last 6 years. Finally getting to share my review on Cornell and Deihl's Pirate Kake!!! . Maybe not an all day smoke but a great choice if youre searching for a characterful, spicy but not too strong mixture. Also pairs nicely with Lagavulin, and a novel about tall ships. That being said, this stuff is good enough to drive to the next state to enjoy. I will recommend it for latakia lovers, and who knows once I have more experience I will appreciate the tin more. Strong Latakia presence with Orientals for a rich, silky, cool smoke. I give this 4Stars because it does not pretend to be anything but what it is. Yeah this is what I wanted for a good old Latakia BBQ. This and the pipe I used in smoking the "Lat Bomb" were given to me a generous friend and this smoke was an adventure worthy of the name "pirate." I think I'm ready to have a bowl of it on it's own. The orientals are drowned by the Latakia and the burley, apart from mitigating the burnt cork taste of pure Latakia, does little. Th is is hands-down the Best smoke I have ever had!! However after I killed a 1/4 pound I realized that I was spot on. The flavor is not very complex; it is quality Latakia center stage, with just enough Burley and Turkish to round out the edges. The cake itself has that delicious campfire aroma to it, but it doesn't seem to come out as much in the bowl. Basaltic, spicy, dark chocolate, medium nicotine. The room note is pleasant yet very strong. It is wonderfully and potently fragrant, it's smooth and rarely bites, and it is easy to acquire. Its almost a single note experience. For this reason in my personal system rating (from 1 to 10) my score is 3 and only a star. The Krumble Kake cut adds tremendously to this blend. Peaty sort of flavor to it. I even find myself occasionaly inhaling this, something I rarely ever do when smoking a pipe. I consider wondefull, fully taste, flavour and scent. Burley and Oriental tobbaccos harmonize and smoothen the taste. Same thickness, same density, and some of the same smell. So I went ahead and ordered it. This stuff rocks! The lack of a virginia component is, IMHO, what sets this blend apart from my other latakia-laden favorites: Old Ironsides and Commonwealth Mixture. I find this to be quite comparable to Penzance. no joke. A Latakia lover's treasure. At first you are like.. wow this is fantastic. Deep flavor but not over powering. (In appraising Arangos Balkan Supreme for the first time, I remember thinking: Jeez, if this is a Lat-Bomb, then I must love me some Lat-Bomb blends).
